Mussey Township Fire Department
The Mussey Township Fire Department was established in 1888. Today, the Mussey Township Fire Department has 33 members. Of these 33 members, 30 hold Fire Fighter I and II certifications. In addition, 8 are licensed as Medical First Responders, 6 are licensed Emergency Medical Technicians, and 2 are licensed Paramedics. Mussey Township Fire Department does not transport patients and only operates at the Medical First Responder level.
Our department recently created a specialized Medical team in addition to our already medically trained fire fighters. This team will be used to enhance our medical responses. In 2006, 6 members of the department competed in Roscommon at the Michigan State Firemen’s Memorial Extrication Competition. They placed 2nd in the state in extrication. Our team also has 8 certified Ice Rescue Technicians.
Funding for the department is provided by Mussey Township taxpayers. The Mussey Township Fire Department currently holds an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating of a 5, one of few in this area. Our department has been awarded many 4 County Grants and a Federal Grant which we have used to help purchase and upgrade some of our equipment. Through fundraising we receive many donations from business members and many charitable individuals in our area, to all of whom we are truly thankful.
Mussey Township Fire Department is a fire fighting & rescue service. Our Fire Department hosts women's auxiliary & CPR programs.
